Moments
Everyone has had that moment in life, the moment where everything changes and will never be the same again. For some people it may happen when you move to a foreign place. Others it may be getting someone new in life or possibly losing someone dear to you. That moment for Percy Jackson happen to be losing his mother to a deadly monster. This is one of the many themes I can relate with Percy Jackson. Although I have not encountered any monsters, Percy and I have a couple of themes in common, including loss of innocence and effects on family.
Although Percy and I are very different we both had to grow up more quickly compared to most children out age. I think since Percy and I both had to grow up with just one parent(our mom). We both know what it’s like to have to be more independent and responsible at such a young age. Not knowing your father can be tough on any child. Especially when you know they can be there, yet choose not to.
I understand how it is, not knowing who your father is. Like Percy I have not seen, much less talked to my father in all my years of living. It puts a lot of pressure on a kid’s shoulders. This effected our family greatly, just in a negative way, like it effected Percy’s. When Percy’s mother had to make the decision to make by marrying the slob of a man smelly Gabe. She sacrificed her sanity for the safety and well being of her only son.
Losing a parent is definitely not good, but it is not bad either. It teaches children to learn how to take matters into their own hands and be responsible. It happened to Percy; it happened to me and probably happened to many other people. The fact is it can’t be changed; only altered into something positive. In the end it is probably for the best.
Counting the Mad
Counting the Mad
Authors note: this is a short response to the poem Counting the Mad by Donald Justice.
“This one thought himself a bird” wishing he could be free, to fly around with no rules. “This one a dog” running a high speeds, ears flapping in the wind. “and this one thought himself a man, An ordinary man.” No flying, or running through the wind. “And he cried and cried No No No No. All day long.” The man is sad. being ordinary with rules to stick too. He can never be free like all of those majestic animals. For that reasons he cries.

Coping with imminent death, its not a fun way to start your day. Knowing someone you know is going to be killed in your presence, better yet; killed by you, is not the most fun thing in the world. But sadly it has to be done. In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. Holding the ticked that decides whether you die or not, but be a terrifying experience. Although it is sad and scary it is also a tradition that is not to be broken. Their for the lottery but be carried out each year.

Meaning behind the music
The song “ Tonight we are Young” first became popular when it was sung on the final number of Glee. Also after being on the radio numerous times, the band The Fun was featured in a Chevy commercial. It was at the top charts for 2 weeks in many countries. It does not seem it would be famous from the fact it is a rock song talking about abuse, drugs, alcohol and lies, but that did not stop the fun. With the catchy chorus, and the steady beat, it was number 1 for a while. The beat represents lead singer Reuss’s heartbeat. How later in the song it either gets faster because he is nervous, or slower, because he is becoming more calm and relaxed. Sit back and enjoy as i tell you about this song.
"Give me a second, I need to get my story straight." The first line he is telling how he is with his friends out drinking not sure what is going on or how much he has had to drink. “My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the empire state, while his lover waits for him across the bar.” And the beat gets faster as he sings. The beat picks up as he sings “my seats been taken by some sun glasses asking about a scar.” Sunglasses are symbolizing a cool guy who is asking about the scar the singer gave to his girl. He goes on by singing” I know I gave it to you months ago”. He admits that he gave her a scar of some sort whether it was from drinking or violence. The rest of the first verse is him talking about how he is trying to apologize and take back all the bad he has done.
The chorus the drums are dyeing down, the piano is slowing down and the singing gets more dramatic. “ “So if by the time the bar closes, and you feel like falling down. I’ll carry you home tonight.” All of a sudden it blasts into this straight forward romance between him and the girl. “Tonight, we are young so we’ll set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun.” All of the bad stuff from the first verse disappears. He knows the girl isn't going to forgive him that easy so he is just going to enjoy his night out with his friends.
Ruess knows he is not the perfect boyfriend, and she could probably do much better than him. He goes on in the second verse where he asks his lover if they could “ find new ways to fall apart.” But he is interrupted by his friends obviously back from getting higher than the empires state in the bathroom. “ but our friends are back. So let’s raise the toast. Coz I found someone to carry me home tonight.” He is symbolizing this as his friends who will always have his back.
Then the final verse is him repeating what has already been said in the first few verses and the chorus. Finally the song is ended after the last few choruses, where he found someone who will take care of him.

words differ from sound.
In the song field below, the music was sad and depressing causing a sense of sadness. Even though words may seem sad by reading them, doesn’t mean listening to the music you will feel the same way, Listening to Big yellow taxi, the music is upbeat and happy. An ironically happy song ( quoted from Mrs.Hanson).

The meaning of life, behind the stairs.
Kaelyn Rogers
“Well, son, I'll tell you: Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.” Mother in this story is comparing her life to stairs, the ups and the downs. The different types of stairs represent the type of life you have. “It's had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor” for instance the mother has had a sad torn up life. Filled with sorrow and pain. Life may have its ups, downs, bumps, and splinters. But in the end, we always make it to the top.

bullying
Have you ever walked down the hallway in school and noticed someone getting pushed around or even called names? You may think the person doing the hurting is the bully, but in reality the person bullying and the people watching are bullies. In the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, a girl named Melinda is bullied for being scared, and alone. In the hallways people watch. Some feel bad and some don’t. but either way, everyone’s the bully. That’s why I believe the theme of this story Is loss of innocence and overcoming difficulties.
Melinda walks everywhere with her head drooping on her chest, because she does not want to be seen or heard. She tried to hide from the world, because she is so alone. I can relate to this story in many ways. I have seen people getting bullied, and I have been bullied myself! Just because you are not the one pushing the victim around, doesn’t mean you aren’t hurting them.
Loss of innocence is the main conflict in this book, she goes to the party obligated to have a good time. Unfortunately some people thought she wanted a better time with them. This ended in a loss of innocence because she was taken advantage of, and slowly her life started heading down hill. Getting pushed around, ignored, and just people are horrible to her in general. But luckily she starts to get better, people start talking to her, until finally she tells the world of what has happened.
Finally she is able to put her sadness behind her and move on to better things, like me, she found out who her true friends were, and who weren’t. Luckily in the end for both of us, we put the bullying to rest.

Character Discription!
She walks through the door and with her head buried in her books, trying not to make eye contact with anyone who passes her by. Walking past me without a second glance, she takes her seat in the back of class room as always. She looks at the school as if it were a prison she couldn’t wait to escape. I look around the room wondering why everyone is giving her dirty looks. Although she doesn’t seem to notice or care for that matter.
Melinda seems shy, and innocent! Maybe she gets bullied? Whenever she walks past me I smell the fear and shame she wears, like a perfume. Filled with emotion I am going to try to help the girl who stands before me.

Lightning thief
Percy Jackson is a rebel teenage outcast from New York. Wherever he goes, destruction follows close behind. Everyone may think all he does is cause is mayhem and a disturbance to the peace, but in reality all he is doing is uncovering the ugly truth of the gods. While he is trying to get Zeus’s bolt back by the winter solstice, he most protect the ones he love.
In the thrilling novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Percy must help save the world from another war between the Olympians. After being accused of stealing Zeus’s prize lightning bolt, he must travel to the depths of the underworld to uncover a not so happy surprise.
The fact that the gods think he has stolen the lightning bolt puts Percy, his friends and family in serious danger. The cause in this story is that the Zeus believes that Percy has taken his beloved lightning bolt. Unfortunately that causes problems for Percy because while he is trying to retrieve the bolt and return it to Zeus, he is also trying to fend off monsters and god like creatures.

Dear Mr. Bender
Hello, I am Mrs. Boller, Jenna’s mother. I understand on her trip to Texas with Mrs. Gladstone, Jenna has talked to you about her problems with her father and his drinking disorder. This note is just a thank you for all of the things you have done to help my little girl. When she returned home from Texas, all she could talk about was how Harry Bender was one of the greatest people she has ever met. She has become a very mature, adult like woman, and a great person.
The sales at the shoe store is booming now that Elden is not working there any longer. Fortunately Mrs. Gladstone has recently given Jenna a raise in pay, She is now the manager of Gladstone’s Shoe Store. Thank you so much for all of your help, because with Jenna’s bounce in pay. I can take off some time from work to spend some quality time with my two loving daughters. I don’t think we could have accomplished any of this without you. So without further ado, thank you so much. If you are ever in town, don’t hesitate to stop by and have some dinner.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Boller

quote!
"Just thinkin' about tomorrow clears away the cobwebs and sorrow…." this quote is a song from the movie Annie and is also mentioned in the book. This quote means a lot. The past is the past, we might as well forget it and move on because its only the beginning of a new day.

A Messy Christmas
Christmas break, an amazing time to spend mesmerizing moments with family. Unfortunately for me, while everyone was either on vacation or hanging out with friends I was stuck at home, babysitting two evil snotty children. Well I shouldn’t say both of them are snotty, its mostly the little boy, Carson… Carson is my little 4 year old cousin. The reason my eye twitches on occasion. But if I had to pick one word to describe him he is spoiled. Presents are under the tree. As far as the eye can see! Yea. Half of then had his name on them.
Back to the story! It was a cool morning when I was rudely thrown out of bed, to be told that everyone was leaving and I had to stay and watch the kids. There was plenty of stuff for them to do. But why they decided to do the most destructive messy craft in the house? It blows my mind. "ginger bread houses, and cookies!" they screamed. While I got the cookies ingredients ready I had them set out the candy and ginger bread houses. While we made the cookie dough Carson and Avery. Avery being my 2 year old misfit. Were putting the ingredients into the pot. Eggs, sugar, milk, and flour. So much flour. The kids thought it would be funny to use the flower as show! How fun. Flower on the floor! Flower on the couch! Flower on the dog! FLOUR EVERYWHERE!
After that messy craft, I sent the kids off for their afternoon nap. While they were sleeping I decided to head down stairs to watch some movies on my laptop. After about 2 hours I walk up stairs to see a not so great Christmas surprise. Piper, my dog had managed to climb on the counters to where our beautiful ginger bread houses and cookies were drying. And a sick, fat dog laying on the ground begging for more treats… well l maybe next Christmas the kids will be a little sincere

Willy vs Benjamin
Willy vs. Benjamin
Kaelyn Rogers
Being a woman in the time of revolutionary war can have different effects from a man. In the book War Comes to Willy Freeman by and the movie “The Patriot”. Both the characters Willy and Benjamin are very different, but are both fighting for most of the same reasons.
Willy is a 13 year old African American girl, whose father has been killed in front of her very eyes; Willy’s mother, on the other hand has been kidnapped by the British army in New York City. She bravely decides to dress up as a man and to set out to find her Aunt Betsy. To find her mother and return her safely.
Like Willy, Benjamin Martin, ex militia in the revolutionary war; is seeking the revenge to the man who gruesomely killed one of sons in front of the widowed father. He sets out on a journey to hunt down the man called Colonel William Tavington. Losing another son on the journey, Benjamin kills Tavington.
In my conclusion I see that there is a significant satisfaction that both of the characters fee, wantin to have revenge on the people who have changed the families. I believe both characters have both went on a adventure to keep the ones they love safe.

Hunger games POV essay
I’m watching her being hunted, on television that is. My sister Katness is being hunted by desperate people trying to survive in a game of pure evil. In the thrilling novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Katness Everdeen a 16 year old girl who lives in a apocalyptic world, is taken from her family to compete in the hunger games. Katness must use her hunting skills and street smarts to outwit the other opponents, in order to survive and take care of her family.
It happens every year. Those poor souls who are chosen to be hunted for other the rich’s entertainment. I usually just feel sorry and pass it by. Unfortunately that wasn’t going to happen this year. “Primrose Everdeen” the announcer yelled. I froze, and felt my blood run cold. “This can’t be happening!” I screamed! “There must be some kind of mistake! My name has only been in the drawing once!” I cried and looked around. Somewhere between my cries and the loud gasps from the crowd, I heard someone scream out “I volunteer to take her place!” for a moment I was confused, and then looked to see who it was. No.. this can’t be! My sister, Katness has just volunteered to take my place… to save my life.
Days have passed. I can’t stand to watch the games anymore. They are gruesome and sad. i have seen 13 out of the 24 people killed. Luckily none of them are Katness. I hope this ends soon im tired of watching people die. It’s almost done! There are only a few people left! I’m so proud to be related to Katness. The way she dressed that poor girl in flowers and sang to her after she died. Also that boy from our district I think his name is Peeta? Anyways she is helping him because he is wounded and very sick.
It’s down to the last 3 people and there has been a change in the rules. Two people can live! We have been talking to that baker more often. He is giving us bread and food as we mourn together about how much we miss them and that we are sure they are going to win. Were watching the television waiting with anticipation for something to happen. It seem so quite. After a few minutes of them sneaking around i see Katness’s face. She has that look. The look ment something was coming and it wasn’t good. I looked at the screen horrified at what I was looking at. Dogs no, more like beasts! They are getting closer to them! I see them whisper and they bolt up a tree, just as the 3rd participant sees them and takes off to finish the job. I watch as Katness and Peta slowly pick the animals off one by one. Soon there are only a few left. The boy is attacking them frantically trying to survive. Katness is mouthing something to him. It looks like an “im sorry” when she shoots him with her last arrow.
Everyone is running around screaming with joy and I’m crying because I have never been so happy in my entire life. I’m talking to Katness’s friend Gale when I hear someone yell. “Hey look.” We all turn our attention to the T.V announcer is saying something. “Well it seems there is a change of plans. Its back to one winner! Good luck disrict 12”. I scream and punch the wall with all my might. Everyone is silent watching the screen to see what was going to happen. Then I see it. They are putting the berries in their mouths. The berries that killed that fox faced girl. I cry and watch as they both attempt to commit suicide. The announcer quickly chimes in. “Ok, I think we can have an exception this one time. Congratulations to the winners of the hunger games, from district 12!” They walk out of the arena and everyone is cheering. I finally get to see my sister again. I don’t know how I will ever be able to repay her for this. After all she is the best sister in the world.
